Istanbul Trade Fairs & Business Events — Visitor Guide

Istanbul is where European and Asian supply chains meet, and its trade fairs reflect that: textiles, machinery, automotive parts, food processing and construction materials, aimed at buyers from the Balkans, the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa as much as from Europe. For sourcing rather than showcasing, it is one of the most useful cities in the region.

LodgEvent lists 30 events in Istanbul across 4 venues, with Istanbul Expo Center hosting 18 of them. The strongest sectors here are Fashion, Beauty & Lifestyle, Home & Interior and Food & Beverage.

The practical challenge here is distance, not quality. Both of Istanbul's main fairgrounds sit well outside the historic centre, in a city of 16 million with serious traffic. Where you stay and how you travel matters more in Istanbul than in almost any other fair city.

Two fairgrounds, both west of the centre

From Istanbul Airport (IST)~59 km~35 km
From historic centre~40 km~20 km

Check which venue your event uses before booking a hotel. The two are roughly 25 km apart, and in Istanbul traffic that can mean an hour or more.

Tüyap Fair & Congress Centre

Tüyap is Turkey's largest exhibition centre and its only major privately operated one. It offers around 120,000 m² indoors across 14 column-free halls, plus 25,000 m² outdoors, and handles roughly two million visitors a year from some 70 countries.

Tüyap has one advantage no other Istanbul venue offers: a hotel on the grounds. Tüyap Palas is a 259-room five-star hotel with direct access to the fairground. For exhibitors working a stand across several days, this removes the commute entirely — and in a city where the commute is the main problem, that is worth a premium.

The site is in Beylikdüzü, about 40 km west of the historic peninsula. It is genuinely far out.

Istanbul Expo Center (Yeşilköy)

The Yeşilköy fairground covers around 249,000 m² in total with about 98,000 m² of lettable hall space across 11 halls — eight run by CNR Expo, three by WTC Istanbul. It sits next to the former Atatürk Airport in Bakırköy, closer to the centre than Tüyap and better connected to the coastal transport corridor.

If your event is here, you have more hotel options within reasonable reach.

Getting there

The metrobüs is Istanbul's most useful line for fair visitors. This bus rapid transit system runs in dedicated lanes along the main east–west corridor, bypassing the traffic that clogs everything else. It reaches Beylikdüzü, and connects to the metro, tram and Marmaray network at several points — Zincirlikuyu, Mecidiyeköy, Şirinevler, Zeytinburnu and Cevizlibağ among them. During rush hour it is often faster than a taxi by a wide margin, though it gets extremely crowded.

From Istanbul Airport (IST): The airport is in the far north of the European side, and Tüyap is in the far west — roughly 59 km apart. Havaist runs shuttle buses to Beylikdüzü-Tüyap, which is the simplest option. By car it is around 45 minutes without traffic, considerably longer with it. Public transport from IST to Tüyap involves several changes and is not recommended with luggage.

From Sabiha Gökçen (SAW): This airport is on the Asian side, which makes it substantially further from both fairgrounds. If you have a choice, fly into IST for a trade fair trip.

Around the city: Metro, tram, Marmaray (the rail tunnel under the Bosphorus) and ferries all work well and are inexpensive. You need an Istanbulkart, sold at machines in stations and kiosks — a single card covers every mode including the ferries.

A realistic note on traffic: Istanbul's congestion is severe and unpredictable. Whatever a map tells you a journey takes, add a margin during morning and evening peaks. Ride-hailing exists but sits in the same traffic; rail-based transport is the reliable option.

Where to stay

Your choice depends on which venue you are attending and whether you want to see the city.

  • On-site at Tüyap: Tüyap Palas, if your event is there and rooms are available. Removes the commute entirely.
  • Beylikdüzü and Avcılar: Business hotels near Tüyap, practical and cheaper, but you are far from anything else.
  • Bakırköy and Yeşilköy: Best for Expo Center events, near the coast, with reasonable connections both ways.
  • Şişli, Levent and Mecidiyeköy: The modern business districts, on the metro and metrobüs, and the sensible compromise if you have meetings around the city as well as at the fair.
  • Sultanahmet and Beyoğlu: The historic centre. Beautiful, and the reason to extend your trip — but a long commute to either fairground. Choose this only if the fair is a small part of your visit.

Istanbul has enormous hotel capacity across every price point, and rates are low by European standards. Unlike Hannover or Nuremberg, a trade fair here does not strain the city's supply — you will find something even close to the dates.

Visas and entry

Türkiye operates an e-Visa system for many nationalities, applied for online before travel and usually issued quickly. Others are exempt entirely, and some require an application through a consulate. Requirements have changed several times in recent years, so check your own nationality on the official e-Visa portal rather than relying on older guidance.

If you need a formal invitation for a business visa, the event organiser can usually provide one — Turkish fair organisers are experienced with this for buyers from Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

Passport validity requirements are stricter than in some countries; check the required remaining validity for your nationality before booking.

Practical notes

The working week is Monday to Friday, as in Europe — a straightforward switch if you are combining Istanbul with a Gulf trip, where Saudi Arabia runs Sunday to Thursday.

Currency and payment: the Turkish lira has been volatile, and prices in the tourism and hospitality sector are sometimes quoted in euros or dollars. Cards are accepted almost everywhere. Currency exchange offices generally offer better rates than airports or hotels.

Season: Istanbul's fair calendar runs through spring and autumn, avoiding both the July–August heat and the depths of winter. The city itself is pleasant in April–May and September–October.

Language: English is common in the events sector and in business, less so in taxis and everyday situations. Translation apps are genuinely useful here, and organisers at the larger international fairs provide interpretation.

If you have a free day, the historic peninsula is a serious sight rather than a diversion — but treat it as a separate expedition from your fair days, not something to squeeze in between sessions. The distances do not allow it.

Activity here concentrates in September, October and November. Next up is IFCO 2026 on 19 August 2026.
