Riyadh Trade Fairs & Business Events — Visitor Guide

Riyadh has become one of the fastest-growing exhibition destinations in the world. Under Vision 2030 the city has built exhibition capacity at a pace few markets can match, and international organisers have followed: construction, food, healthcare and energy shows that once ran only in Dubai now have Riyadh editions.

For visitors, this growth comes with a practical catch: much of the infrastructure is new, and the travel advice you'll find online is often out of date. The metro that opened in late 2024 changed how the city works, and the visa rules are stricter than most trade fair visitors expect.

The venues

Riyadh's exhibition activity is split across two main sites, and they are not close to each other.

Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Center (RFECC) is the Kingdom's largest, with over 190,000 m² indoors and a further 50,000 m² outdoors. It hosts the biggest international shows and offers parking for around 7,500 vehicles. It sits north of the city near King Khalid International Airport. Note that it has no direct public transport link — organisers sometimes run shuttles, but plan on a taxi.

Riyadh International Convention & Exhibition Center (RICEC) on King Abdullah Road is smaller and more central, used for mid-sized trade shows and conferences. The nearest metro access is the Blue Line at King Abdullah Financial District, followed by a short taxi ride.

Getting there

King Khalid International Airport (RUH) is 35 km north of the centre. Since November 2024 the Riyadh Metro has made this trip predictable: the Yellow Line (Line 4) runs directly from the airport terminals to the King Abdullah Financial District, taking roughly 35 minutes. A taxi takes 30–60 minutes depending on traffic — the difference at rush hour is significant.

The wider network has six lines, 85 stations and 176 km of track, making it the world's longest driverless system. For a trade fair visitor the practical takeaway is that hotels near a metro station are now genuinely more convenient than they were two years ago.

One caution: the airport reorganised its terminal assignments in February 2026, so check your terminal on your boarding pass rather than relying on older guides.

Where to stay

Riyadh does not have a hotel district built around its exhibition centres, so the choice depends on which venue you're attending.

• Near Riyadh Front / airport north: Most convenient if your event is at RFECC, and the obvious choice for exhibitors managing a stand. The trade-off is that there is little to do in the evening.
• Olaya and King Fahd Road: The city's main business corridor, well served by the metro's Blue Line, with the widest range of international hotel brands. The sensible default for visitors rather than exhibitors.
• King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD): Newer, quieter, directly connected to both the airport line and the Blue Line. Good if you have meetings in the financial sector alongside your event.

Book early. Riyadh's hotel supply is growing but demand is growing faster, and large shows fill the city.

Visas — read this before booking

This is where trade fair visitors most often get caught out.

Attending an exhibition as a visitor generally works on a tourist eVisa, available online to eligible nationalities. The detail most people miss: it allows 90 days in total across a 365-day period, not 90 days per visit — and it cannot be extended.

If you are exhibiting, meeting clients or negotiating contracts, you need a Business Visit Visa, and this cannot be applied for independently. A Saudi host company must first generate an invitation through the MOFA portal. Processing typically takes several working days after the invitation, but allow more time — the invitation itself can take up to five days.

Since February 2025, multiple-entry visit visas have been suspended for several nationalities including India, Egypt, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Jordan and Morocco. Single-entry visas are still issued, but each trip requires a fresh invitation. Verify your own status with the Saudi embassy before making travel plans.

Practical notes

The Saudi working week runs Sunday to Thursday — Friday and Saturday are the weekend. Exhibitions are scheduled accordingly, and a Thursday-afternoon flight home is often the natural end of a trip.

Cards are widely accepted and both Uber and Careem operate. The climate shapes the calendar: exhibition season concentrates in the cooler months, roughly October through April, while summer temperatures make June to August unrealistic for large events.
